To Whom it may concern:

The Arkansas Department of Human Services does have a Mutual Consent Voluntary Adoption Registry for adoptees, 21 years of age or older, and birth relatives (birth mother, birth father, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or cousins) Through the Adoption Registry, we find matching birth relatives, set up a neutral meeting for both or all parties, and allow them the opportunity to exchange any personal information. I have enclosed a brochure about the Adoption Registry for your review.

We are able to provide a background summary for adoptees or the adoptive family regarding the adoptee's background upon request after submitting a completed affidavit form. The background may include genetic, developmental, health and social history documented in the adoptee's sealed records which is stored on microfilm. The birth family may receive a background summary regarding the adoptive family. Any information that can be non-identifying that is included in the case documentation may be part of the summary for either party.

The search services we have available for adult adoptees are through the Adoption Registry. We have no other search mechanism in place at present, nor anticipate in the near furture. At the present time, we don not have any records/case information automated. The office has not formally kept track of the reunited birth relatives. Since the Adoption Registry began in the mid-80's, we have been associated with approximately 15 reunions.

If you have any further questions, you may contact me at 501-682-8462

Sincerely
Judy Ford
Adoption Registry Coordinator
Adoption Services Unit.
