Dear Sir or Madam:
Thank you for your letter requesting information on services offered by the State of Maryland to adoptees and birth family members. I apologize for the delay in responding.
Maryland has a Mutual Consent Volunatry Adoption Registry which is a service to adult adoptees and birth family members who wish to be reunited. Non- idenifying and medical information can be obtained from the agency that handled the adoption or from court records. The court can appoint an intermediary for medical information that is necessary but not found in the court records. A brochure on the Registry is attached.
This agency does not keep automated records of the results of these searches. Also, beginning October, 1999, Maryland will offer adoption search, contact and reunion services for consenting adult adoptees and birth parents through the use of a confidential intermediary. For more information on this service, please contact Ginger Metzger at the address below or call her at (410) 767-7730. She will be happy to assist you. I hope this information is helpful.
Sincerely,
Tonia Matthews
Adoption Secretary
